Hello Goalies, my name is Caleb Wise and I'm your dedicated IT support and the help desk for Germantown Municipal School in this video I'm going to give you an overview overview of the Chromebook the 500e Gen 3 version to increase familiarity with the device if you have not updated your device or have not received a new device our designated pick up dates are August 3rd 3:30 to 6:30 and August 7th 3 to 5 p.m. both at the district office this is your Chromebook if you hold the device like you're going to open the lid for going to start right there to look at it this way and move it to the right we're going to check out the buttons on the right side the first button you're going to see is the power button when you press that it'll light up for to actually work the lid needs to be open but that can also help you power off a device the next buttons here are your volume up volume down if we have a USB connection on this can be used for external keyboards or mice or adapters of USB type-c weather's going to ethernet adapter from USB or HDMI adapter then you also have an HDMI connection that will give you access to an external monitor if you want to do that this last little square up here by moving what's the back of ice it looks like a little slot that's for a cable lock you don't have to worry about that on the left side of the device you have your USB C power connection on the USB connection there's no wrong way to plug it in there's no up or down which is very helpful if there's a light there for when it's plugged up to power there's a little battery emblem to make sure you know that that can be used for you can also use USB C adapter to different types of connections from here as well so this can be USB C to USB a USB C to ethernet USB PC to HDMI you have another USB connection here like the previously mentioned that can go to a keyboard or an external monitor or do you have like a little Bluetooth connection for wireless mice are keyboards and do the same thing with Jack connection if you want to use Hardline connection for headphones and then you have an external expansion slot for storage for physical stored you don't have to worry about this either everything that we do for storage is based on all of the accounts that you got to have for Google through emails bottom of the device you can see all the screws and stuff there's a little drain hole on the bottom left right under a screw here it's kind of hard to see you destroyed here but that's a liquid drain hole for the keyboard so if something happens where something gets spilled on the keyboard because it's routed right here so don't be alarmed if that happens that's where Grand Theft opening the the first thing I want to mention I'm usually when you open up the Chromebook I'm if it's got enough battery power to go ahead an hour on and get your login screen they're all the logins for the crew book and a Chrome OS overview will be done and a separate video and I'll also do a separate video for Pearson Connexus as well the first thing I do want to point out is that you want to be careful with these device in general a 2 by 6 you know used and then stays world you want to be careful with him, but I do want to point out that in the top part of the screen right here top left and then kind of Center left in the center right there that's above the keyboard and then in the bottom right right down here just to the right of the touchpad the Wi-Fi antenna are just so you are aware this device is based on Wi-Fi connectivity you can use a USB adapter to ethernet you want to go that route but mostly you're going to be using no buy a Wi-Fi for internet connectivity here we have our display keyboard there's a camera here there's also came here at the top keyboard and then we have our touchpad the first thing I want to kind of go over is your function keys which is the top row of these Keys here across the top of the keyboard from left to right I'm going to go those for you I'm the first one here is labeled ESC for escape if you're using any type of like application or you're typing in a web page if you press Escape main functions it's not back out on a black one if I got to close the window that you're typing in the browser and you press Xscape the cursor is removed from the browser and I know sometimes I'm typing up accidentally hit something on my woah next to that we have a left and right arrow key these are just manual buttons if you're working in a online text document or something that's been downloaded you can press left right can I move a document for you in it will also work the same for pictures whether you're looking at them online or you hasn't downloaded if you're working in something that involves pictures that was manually that way have a a refresh key next to that that will reload webpage application if used most of the time the Google Chromebook is going to update stuff within itself especially if it's a achromatic my Google doc says that but you can manually for something to reload like your inbox of webpage something like that the next but here's got a little square with kind of two arrows in the corners that can maximize the screen or minimize it manually and it can do it on the main screen so your home page or can do it within a web page and application at work both ways you can make something larger make something smaller the right of that is your task view button if you're working and you press this button it'll show you all the applications that you have open so if you have Google Docs open from your taskbar from open and baby pictures if you hit this button here it's going to open all of those up so you can kind of see him all at once and you can manually go to like what you need to go to if you want to go that route or just to see what you have open the next button here how do buttons work in Tandem and set so you have a small gear wheel or small looking son even that can make the screen dimmer the next one is a small or larger sign or you will that will make the screen brighter it would have her mute button that's a microphone with a slash through it and we have a smaller microphone to bring the volume down manually the next one to the right of course you do volume up that's just a larger microphone you have your manual lock screen button so I would highly advise all parents of students on all devices if you have to do something where you leave your device just walking it's just a good rule of thumb but just in case like you have a younger brother or older brother or sister that just walked around with your device when you're gone just lock it so they can't do anything with it across the top now we're going to add a few more buttons this button here either with a caps lock key is on your other keyboard you know if you're used to Windows or this is a magnifying glass here so when you press this button by itself when you're logged in its going to bring up the search function where you can search through files an application that are on the Chromebook are combinations that you can do with this button you can do magnifying glass and a nail for a quick screen lock I'm using the manual lock up here that's got the little lock picture on it and the top right of the function keys you kind of have to press that you can't see the screen kind of them away almost and just have to hold it for a second and then it locks yeah I'm using the touchpad if you're not using not used to using a touchpad you since we just use your dominant hand and finger you know index finger your middle finger or however you want to do it that literally the time is your mouth and we have these touchpad set up default in the settings for you literally don't have to physically click you can just touch and it was select like you're clicking on a mouse there are things that you can do with multiple fingers on the touchpad if you're using two fingers and you just tap with two fingers and you want to kind of keep them separated not real close keep them a little separated you touch with you fingers on the touchpad that's going to bring up like your option menu or like shortcut menus so back to screen copy paste save save a document you can do two fingers on the touch the right click on a mouse eventually using two fingers together you can scroll up down left or right swiping up from the bottom of the touchpad with three things asked you so that some that's the same as using your Camp do you button up here just another way of doing it there show you all your open applications or Windows swiping down from the top of the touchpad will show the current window so if you're working within multiple windows you swipe down from the top right with three fingers maintenance tips for the Chromebook back up a step I'm sorry most of these functions that I just went over with the touchpad you can use them on the screen as well this is a touchscreen as well and we're going to move it into that in just a second with the stylus also swiping down touching two fingers scrolling up and down the screen you can do it on the screen just as a caveat to conserve the lifespan of these devices please make sure that were only using the stylist that checked out with the bike and the child's fingers only just for maintenance purposes is a dried soft and lint-free cloth or a piece of exorbitant cotton to remove fingerprints or just from the multi-touch screen do not apply solvent the multi-touch screen is a glass panel covered with a plastic film don't apply pressure or any metallic object that could damage the screen Nails club fingers inanimate objects or any type of input on the screen just like I said stylist singer Zone the silence is located forgot to mention that it's on the left side it's red you just put nail under here and it slides right out this might look different than your previous styluses if you had a Chromebook with his before this is just an updated version of its charges when the Chromebook is charging and it's leave here but when you're using the stylus most of the time I think a lot of students don't even use this but if you do use it you text the screen to select you hold it a little bit depending on what type of mood you're in using the Chromebook or what application you're in determine what you can and can't do with it so you can touch and select when I'm using it tablet or laptop mode notebook mode like normal you can text the screen select your Chrome browser it'll pull up you can click on the search bar but you can't write out what you going to search the keyboard for in Notebook mode spring type of multimedia we have options built on the Chromebook we have your camera your speakers and other audio features you can also have an external device connected whether it's a keyboard mouse or even external Monitor and your headphones as well most of that depending on what you do to interface with those devices if you plug something in you're going to be able to see it in the bottom right usually like that it's being plugged up so if you have any options trying to find that you can go into the launcher which is in the bottom left of the home screen you can search camera you can search display You Know audio and you're going to be able to kind of fine-tune those options of what you're trying to do with that giving that given input camera switch really need to see about this device to the main camera at the top of the device has a camera shutter it has like a little red circle you just slide it to the right and the camera will open so with our Google meet meetings in the morning for don't let that person students at the first week or so getting started Staffing manually move that to the right if I haven't done anything with it and then just like I said if you want to lock your devices when you leave and it popped open just as a just slide it back camera and you don't have to worry about any application that you don't know that you have open by accident or something like that or something. are there different types of modes I kind of mentioned that briefly apologize I hear there's different mode that you can use with your Chromebook what up my little PDF here to make sure I give you the right name so your normal mode here's your notebook mode this is where you type in you know you using the keyboard using the touchpad you can use your camera. for your Google meet meeting or another feature that's the normal weight using a laptop that's what most of us are used to amuse and it's based on these hinges here you can kind of see those there's one here making one here just be careful when you use these don't apply lot of force to push down don't pull just left the Hindu the work for you you can open this up like this and you can take the keyboard and set it down and when you do this everything come out becomes determining on what mode of sand on what the inputs going to be for the device so if it's like this you're simply using tablet with a stand keyboard on the desk so you can use your fingers you can for your stylist for this mode of your other mode is your tent mode and propping up the device so if I'm home like this for the keep her face is me and I turned that around and I can even see the screen to orientated it flipped upside down and I'm going to make that so now I'm using it with my fingers or the Sun in any other mode is you can just go ahead and push this all the way down and you can hold it up right you can see the screen orientation based on how you're holding and now you're in tablet mode so simply other than notebook mode can you do anything like this with the other mode using it as a stand you going to be using your fingers or the or the stylist all right there is like caveat warning in the operator's manual essentially just be careful if you're using this in tablet mode and you have an external device connected this the keyboard to get hot if it's sitting on your lap I would reckon use a laptop and notebook mode and it should be used as an external device mode you know if you're doing something quickly just hold prop it up something like that if it does get hot it's not like it's going to catch fire so I can do that just turn it back around let it cool off and it'll be fine this like I said was just an overview of the physical you know functions of the Chromebook I always tell my students and parents as I talk to him over the last couple of years make sure students close out all their applications at the end of the school day I'm charged over power it down it really helps the device the way it works to manually take updates by the internet and charging overnight just you know I prolong the battery life anything
